Seqwater Recreation Review has been honoured with awards

Seqwater’s landmark Recreation Review has been honoured for setting a new benchmark for community engagement, scooping two accolades at the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Awards on Friday evening.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said Seqwater had been presented with the Brisbane City Council Outstanding Achievement Award (Organisation) and the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation (QORF) Government Achievement Award in a ceremony at Riverlife Brisbane.

In doing so, Seqwater became the only organisation or individual ever to win two QORF awards in the same year.

“Last week we released the recreation guide for Hinze Dam on the Gold Coast, the final guide to be published in the Recreation Review process,” Mr Dennis said.

“More than 3700 people provided feedback through the consultation process, ensuring the diverse views and recreational needs of the public were captured.

“The Queensland Outdoor Recreation Awards are recognition of the quality process which was undertaken to shape the future of recreation in and around Seqwater lakes.”

The awards follow success at the Australasian level. Seqwater was last month highly commended for the community engagement plan associated with the Recreation Review in the Project Planning section of the International Association for Public Participation Australasia Core Value Awards in Sydney.

Mr Dennis said he was proud the Recreation Review had been recognised for outstanding achievement in the planning and delivery of recreation outcomes.

“I would like to thank the community for their participation and feedback to ensure we delivered improvements which reflected the needs of our visitors,” he said.

“The community will continue to benefit from further improvements resulting from the review over the coming years.
