EXCESS CATAMARANS

Born to Sail Differently, Designed for Real Sensation

Excess Catamarans is a young and dynamic brand in the sailing world, launched in 2019 as part of the Groupe Beneteau family. Built on decades of boatbuilding expertise, Excess was created to bring a distinct identity to the cruising catamaran market, one that breaks new ground and places sailing sensations back at the centre of the cruising experience. While many catamaran brands emphasise comfort and luxury above all else, Excess was designed by sailors, for sailors who still want to feel connected to the sea and experience the joys of sailing. Its ambition is clear: to deliver the thrill of sailing without sacrificing comfort.

This positioning has helped Excess stand out quickly in a competitive market. The brand speaks to owners looking for more than simple cruising convenience. It appeals to sailors who want responsiveness at the helm, a lighter and more direct connection with the boat, with its “less is more” philosophy and a style of navigation that feels active, fresh and engaging. In this sense, Excess is a gateway to sensations, a brand created for sailors looking for their next adventure.

From the beginning, Excess has supported this identity through an active presence at international events and owner-focused experiences. The brand is present at major boat shows, where it presents its models, meets prospective owners and partners, and offers sea trials. These sea trials are key in the client journey because they allow people to experience the boats in action, which is essential to understanding the Excess philosophy. The brand is not defined only by design or onboard layout, but by what sailors feel once underway.

This same spirit can also be seen in owner gatherings and sailing-focused experiences developed around the brand. Through events such as the Excess Campus and Excess Tours, owners and enthusiasts can spend time onboard, improve their handling skills and engage directly with the sailing elements of the boats. These initiatives help build more than a customer base. They create the Excess Tribe, Excess enthusiasts brought together by a shared appetite for freedom, adventure and life on the water.

Today, the brand’s range is structured around three models: the Excess 11, Excess 13 and Excess 14. Together, they express the same vision of cruising catamarans, more direct, more dynamic and more connected to the sea, while addressing different sailing programs and owner expectations. The brand has also recently introduced the Riders’ Edition, a special edition available on the Excess 11 and Excess 14, designed to transform the catamaran into a true basecamp for riders and outdoor explorers. At the heart of this identity is the new Excess 13, a model that clearly expresses the brand’s philosophy. Benefiting from the architectural expertise of Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group and interior design by Jean-Marc Piaton, it combines comfort with an even more physical and involved sailing experience. Measuring 13 metres, it stands out through features intended to increase the connection between skipper, boat and sea. To name just one of many, its aft twin helms create a direct connection with the rudders and the sea, rather than above it on a flybridge. This creates a more responsive and intuitive sensation at the helm, something that many experienced sailors immediately recognise and value. The model has earned broad industry recognition, underlining the relevance of its approach in a competitive segment.

Excess is also looking ahead through innovation in materials and construction. This year, the brand unveiled an Excess 11 presented as the world’s first catamaran incorporating recycled and recyclable resin. Developed with key industrial partners, this prototype combines Elium™ recyclable resin, a low-carbon resin and 45% recycled fiberglass. It marks an important step in the search for more circular production methods in composite boatbuilding, while remaining fully aligned with the brand’s forward-looking mindset.

In just a few years, Excess has established a clear voice in the multihull segment by challenging certain conventions of the category. It offers a fresh interpretation of the cruising catamaran: less detached, more engaging, and more focused on what sailing should feel like. Through its growing global visibility, the Excess Tribe and models such as the Excess 13, the brand continues to affirm a simple but distinctive promise: catamarans designed for people who want to stay connected to the sea, embrace sailing, and fully dive into an incredible experience.
