STATE-OF-THE-ART PASSAGEMAKER
Launched as the smaller sibling to the Nordhavn 80, the new Nordhavn 71 offers an elegant, modern passagemaker for adventurous owners. It is aimed at those in the upper end of the mid-size range who love the aesthetics and capability of Nordhavn’s larger yachts but prefer to cruise without a full-time crew. The first three hulls were secured by seasoned Nordhavn owners moving up from N60 and N68 models, clear confirmation that this design fills a long-awaited gap in the line-up.
Nordhavn co-owner and Chief of Design Jeff Leishman calls the N71 a long-overdue update for this size class: “Styling, technology and creature comforts have all evolved since the early 2000s, so it was time to provide this category with a fresh alternative.”
DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE
Buyers can select either a three-stateroom layout with a skylounge or a four-stateroom arrangement in its place. Although more compact than the 80-foot flagship, the N71 carries true big-boat presence thanks to twin John Deere 6068 diesels (249 hp each), sleek lines and a hull refined by Computational Fluid Dynamics for efficiency and a soft ride. As with every serious Nordhavn, the N71 is built to CE Category A standards for offshore work.
A fuel capacity of 17,528 litres provides an impressive range of about 4,500 nautical miles between refuelling stops, allowing owners to explore far-flung destinations without compromising the ability to handle the yacht themselves.
INTERIOR AND ACCOMMODATION
Step aboard and you enter a bright saloon that flows into a forward-facing galley and a full dining area, a layout designed for easy movement and social living. All cabins are ensuite, and the palatial full-beam owner’s suite amidships offers maximum comfort under way. Larger windows and upgraded lighting flood the interior with natural light, highlighting contemporary finishes and intuitive space planning. Despite a comprehensive standard specification that streamlines build time and cost, Nordhavn still provides wide scope to personalise interiors so each yacht reflects its owner’s style.
NEW-GENERATION NORDHAVNS
The N71 headlines a trio of recent designs. The Nordhavn 625 (about 65 ft) updates the proven N60 platform with larger windows, an expanded flybridge and a single John Deere 325 hp engine for efficient long-range cruising. The compact Nordhavn 51 (about 51 ft) is a twin-engine passagemaker with two staterooms and a flybridge, delivering a fully equipped Category A yacht in a smaller footprint. Together they showcase Nordhavn’s evolution into a new era while retaining the marque’s legendary ocean-crossing DNA.
FLAGSHIP INTERNATIONAL
Flagship International Yacht Brokers are Australasian Nordhavn dealers. Managing Director Marley Cutbush personally delivered a Nordhavn 60, now named Ara Roa (formerly Last Samurai), on a 7,000 nautical mile passage from Mexico to Sydney, including a 15-day non-stop leg to Hawaii and reef-hops through Samoa and Fiji. The fault-free voyage cemented Flagship’s relationship with Nordhavn and underpins the practical expertise the team offers clients today.
Flagship maintains the region’s largest inventory of Nordhavn brokerage listings and provides end-to-end support, from selecting or commissioning a new build to detailed hand-over tuition and passage-planning advice.
