Wishlist Granted – WHITTLEY SL20 OB

Story by Roselle Tenefrancia

We wanted something big enough to go out to the islands but not too big as we weren’t hugely experienced; something that had a cabin for the kids but nothing too fancy that we wouldn’t want to make a mess of when we went fishing.” These were on the wishlist of Heath and Tiana Games, owners and managers of a cattle station in Baralaba, Queensland.

Having previously owned a 4.6 tinny, Heath and Tiana quickly discovered they loved being on the water and needed a bigger boat. Fortunately for the couple, they found the perfect boat in the Whittley SL20. “It has all the features we were wanting, and the Whittleys are a very nice looking boat! The SL20 was the perfect size,” declares Heath.

The Whittley SL 20 is the baby in the Sea Legend fleet, loaded with big boat performance. It features a legendary offshore ride with a deep V-hull that is 23-degrees at the transom. It looks as good as it performs, with a new-look cabin entry sitting in front of the most comfortable seats in the 6m class. Underfoot, there is a moulded fibreglass floor with non-slip diamond tread and the helm features a stylish black-moulded dash. Powered by a 135hp four-stroke outboard with hydraulic steering as standard, performance is assured. Aside from cruising, snorkeling and island hopping, Heath, Tiana and their two children also enjoy fishing from their boat. The battle station fishing features come thick and fast on the SL 20, with moulded side pockets for storage, two solid esky/kill tanks and four stainless steel rod holders. The standard package also includes front and side clears, front rubber flooring, floor fish measurer and an alloy rocket launcher.

Heath and Tiana have owned the boat for at least a year and have been taking it for a visit to the Keppel Islands group. “It’s a beautiful area with so much to see and do. And even when the weather isn’t the best, there are plenty of sheltered spots and beautiful reefs to snorkel, too. This is the only area we have taken the boat so far, while we gained our confidence. We are now looking to start exploring some new areas soon.”

The helm features a stylish black moulded dash, with ample room for multifunction electronic package and premium gauge selections. All the information you need is available at a glance. A stainless steel grab rail is conveniently located around the windscreen, for safety. The boat also features innovative seats with cushions on top of esky/bait boxes. Combined with one of the deepest V-hulls in its class, a performance rideis assured. Heath states, “We are very impressed with the way it rides on the water and how well it handles when it starts to get a bit rough.”

Heath’s family enjoy all the fun activities on their boat, and they also appreciate the sense of community around them. They proudly state that the Whittley boating community are a great group of people and that they love bumping into other Whittley owners out on the water.

Heath and Tiana are definitely proud owners of a Whittley boat. “With the reputation of the Whittleys, we knew we couldn’t go wrong.”
