Equal parts luxury day boat, family entertainer and practical ship-to-shore work boat, the BRIG Eagle 8 proves that the modern RIB has evolved to become a versatile all-rounder, delivering a compelling mix of performance and style.
No longer purely utilitarian, luxury RIBs have transformed into a segment of their own, laden with features that broaden their appeal with families, adventure seekers and commercial operators. First and foremost, RIBs are stable, sturdy, safe, fuel efficient and easy to handle, providing a dry and cushioned ride.
At 8 metres with a beam of 2.9 metres, the BRIG Eagle 8 is roomy enough for up to 10 guests seated on board, and rated for up to 16. With a slight tube deflation, it’s trailerable, making it a fantastic day boat, chase boat or luxury tender to a larger mothership.
Stepping aboard the Eagle 8 demonstrator at Sirocco Marine Queensland headquarters at Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, it’s clear why this model is the brand’s most popular.
Access is via the transom which features a large step on the starboard side and a platform with boarding ladder and freshwater shower portside. But it’s just as convenient to enter the vessel over the sides, stepping on the sturdy Hypalon tubes, both safe and non-slip. A ski tow pylon comes standard, ideal for towing inflatables and wakeboarders.
The platforms and deck of the Eagle 8 are covered in genuine Seadek EVA flooring, which is low maintenance, stain and UV-resistant. Self-draining floors are practical for managing waves and sea spray and when hosing out after a day on the water. The lounge section comprises a full-beam rear seat for three guests, and seating opposite. This section can convert to a dining space with the addition of a table which is stowed in an under-seat locker which is also large enough for safety gear and inflatables, as well as storing the dual battery system.
The double helm is offset to the starboard side with a wide walkway portside. At a pinch, kids and nimble adults can walk along the starboard tube. Protected by the windscreen and fibreglass T-Top overhead, each helm chair can be comfortably used standing or sitting, and the driver has an optimal central eyeline over the bow.
The Yamaha-powered digital electric steering system provides effortless control, for a smooth, responsive driving experience, particularly important at high speeds or in choppy conditions.
Uncluttered and ergonomic, the dashboard comprises a LED backlit control panel and 12-inch Simrad screen for GPS, Fish Finder, Depth Sounder and VHF Radio. Owners can customise this depending on their preferences as every boat is rigged by the expert team at Sirocco Marine. The glove box conceals 12V charger and USB, and there are two cupholders for your choice of refreshment. Underseat storage is handy for extra gear. Now, the family-approved feature that makes days on the water so much better: A PROPER TOILET! With its side door access, the fully-enclosed toilet is adult sized and boasts a window for airflow and light. The floor level is dropped into the hull, creating ample headroom. It can double as a change room and storage area, and there’s also a shelf which owners have used to accommodate a compact fridge.
Heading forward to the bow lounge, there are plenty of grab rails and handles on the tubes for guest safety. Powered by a 350hp Yamaha, the BRIG Eagle 8 is a true 50-knot boat and can certainly get going, so it’s reassuring to know guests are able to hold on tight. The tubes themselves consist of five chambers, with an overpressure valve. When the air expands in the heat, the valves allow excess air to bleed off so there’s no stress on the tubes. Made of premium Hypalon, which is ideal for intense sun environments, the tubes are resilient to exposure to fuels, oils, saltwater, and cleaning agents. The bow lounge converts into a sun pad with a cushion insert. The seat opposite has a large locker underneath, often used as an ice chest. The anchor and electric windlass are housed in the bow compartment, and the anchor is self-righting for easy retrieval. Multiple davit lifting points allow the boat to be hoisted onto a trailer or larger vessel, while the bow step includes cleats and navigation lights.
On board, the Eagle 8 carries 340L of fuel and 45L of water, and weighs around 1,800kg rigged. The fibreglass hull comes with BRIG’s 10-year warranty. Priced at $228,500 with the 350hp Yamaha engine or $225,000 with 300hp engine, the BRIG Eagle 8 bridges the gap between high-performance practicality and luxurious family day boat.
