SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW 30 July – 3 Aug
It is where boaties go to get the latest information about recreational boating, with hundreds of boat dealers onsite to help make your boating dreams a reality. On the upper level of the exhibition centre, head to the outdoor event deck on the top exhibition level where two giant pools host on-water demonstrations of marine products. BRISBANE TO HAMILTON ISLAND YACHT RACE 31 July
The Brisbane to Hamilton Island Yacht Race is one of Australia’s longest tropical category 2 offshore yacht races, and will deliver competitors to the wonderful destination of Hamilton Island, in time for Whitsunday Race Weeks. NOAKES SYDNEY GOLD COAST YACHT RACE 25–29 July
This year will mark the 35th edition of the 384-nautical mile race, starting at the Sydney Harbour and finishing off Main Beach in Southport. Southport Yacht Club is the Gold Coast host. The boats should arrive at Southport by the end of the month. (goldcoast.cyca.com.au)
POTTSVILLE SPORTS GREENBACK FISHING COMP 6-7 June

THE HOBIE KAYAK BREAM SERIES – GOLD COAST 22-23 June
The Hobie Kayak Bream Series is designed to offer kayak anglers a competitive bream-fishing tournament. Round 7 of the event heads to the Gold Coast to battle it out. BRIBIE CLASSIC BOAT REGATTA 22-24 May
For over 20 years each May, Bribie Islanders have enjoyed witnessing classic boats, large and small, flocking into the Pumicestone Passage for a weekend of “messing about in boats” – general fun on a fantastic waterway. 2020 GARMIN BLUE MARLIN CLASSIC 17-19 April
Organised by the Gold Coast Gamefish Club, this is a two-day fishing tournament, which will be held out of the Southport Yacht Club. The event will include a Calcutta and Sweepstakes, along with raffles and giveaways. Gold Coast waters boast one of the best locations in the world to fish competitively for billfish, including blue and juvenile black marlin. (gcgfc.com.au)
BRISBANE TO GLADSTONE 10 Apr
The 72nd Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race is one of Australia’s flagship offshore yacht races. One of Queensland’s icons, the race is the highest profile Easter Weekend sporting event. From the start, yachts proceed via a mark off Redcliffe Point to the North West Channel up to Caloundra and through to Gladstone, a distance of approximately 308 nautical miles. 12 TOWERS OCEAN PADDLE RACE 2020 5 – 6 March
The race will see scores of stand–up paddle and prone paddle athletes contest an open water distance pursuit in the pristine ocean waters of the Gold Coast. An anticipated 120-150 competitors of all ages and board categories will compete on an ocean course that tracks across 12 Gold Coast lifeguard towers out to sea from Snapper Rocks Coolangatta to Burleigh Heads. THE LITTLE SHIP GAME FISH CLUB GARMIN GAMEFISH CLASSIC 21–23 Feb
This is a 3–day event where Game Fishing Association of Australia (GFAA) rules will apply for the duration of the tournament. All anglers must be current financial fishing members of Queensland Game Fishing Association (QGFA)-member club, or current financial fishing members of a club affiliated with GFAA. Open to teams representingclubs from QGFA zones 3 & 4. Shield is awarded to the Club fielding the highest point scoring team. SURF TO CITY YACHT RACE 1 Feb
No other race in Australia consists of two fleets, an offshore and inshore fleet, both starting and finishing at the same place. The Surf to City Yacht Race is also one of a handful of races that see both monohull and multihull yachts compete against each other. The Surf to City is now in its 27th year. In past races, the race attracted over 110 of the most influential yachts in Queensland and northern New South Wales ranging in size from the mighty Black Jack to 7m trailer sailors. Many Australians celebrate Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year. It marks the first day of the new year in the Chinese calendar. WHITSUNDAYS CLIPPER RACE CARNIVAL 11-18 Jan
The Whitsundays will once again come alive with festivities and fun when the world’s most wondrous sailing event arrives for the Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival in January. The Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival will feature signature events such asthe Welcome Event at the Airlie Beach foreshore, a long lunch on the iconic Whitehaven Beach, a Rodeo by the Reef in Bowen, and Clipper Team Building Sailing Experiences. SYDNEY HOBART YACHT RACE 26-31 Dec
Over the past 75 years, the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race has become an icon of Australia’s summer sport. Hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, no regular annual yachting event in the world attracts such huge media coverage than does the start on Sydney Harbour. The race has had a marked influence on international ocean yacht racing, and influenced the world in race communications and sea safety, maintaining the highest standards for yacht race entry. CHRISTMAS IN SURFERS PARADISE 12-25 Dec

MELBOURNE CUP 5 Nov

GOLD COAST 600 V8 SUPERCARS RACING 25-27 Oct
The Gold Coast 600 is set to become Supercars’ first night street race as part of a bumper deal with the Queensland Government. BEACH WARRIOR 12 Oct
Coolangatta will be set against the backdrop of the magnificent Coolangatta and Kirra Beaches and will be the most unique and beautiful obstacle race Australia has seen. Designed by the founders of Nitro Circus Live, Beach Warrior will feature 25 challenging and fun obstacles over a four-kilometre course on grass, sand and rocks. ST HELENA CUP REGATTA 5-6 Oct
Wynnum Manly Sailing club is proud to conduct the biggest weekend “big boat” regatta, the St Helena Cup, held in Southern Queensland each year. FAI WORLD PARACHUTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 6-13 Oct
The festival of the World Parachuting Championships kicks off in Surfers Paradise from 6 October, with the Opening Ceremony at 3pm, as over 40 Nations march up Cavill Ave and on to the beach for parachute display and fireworks. The real action begins on 7 October at Runaway Sports Super Centre where parachutists land and pack parachutes in preparation to jump again. (apf.com.au)
