Friends of the Arts Centre Gold Coast has praised the winning new cultural precinct design and called on residents to support the project.
The winning design was announced on Thursday, November 21 at the Arts Centre which was attended by Friends of the Arts Centre board.
The organisation’s President Tim Cole said the design will provide an iconic civic and cultural centre for the Gold Coast.
“This is an imaginative and exciting project which addresses the needs of a contemporary and growing city,” Mr Cole said.
“The population has increased six‐fold since the original Arts Centre was built in 1986 and we urgently need to expand the performance and exhibition facilities,” he said. Mr Cole said it was important the public showed support for the new cultural precinct.
“The original Arts Centre was built due to the efforts of concerned citizens who formed the Friends of the Arts Centre,” he said.
“We now urge residents to get behind this next milestone development in the arts, which will bring cultural and economic benefits to the city.”
Members of Friends of the Arts Centre and representatives of the arts community have been invited to view a model of the new arts precinct.
