SUPPORT SURF LIFE SAVING ACROSS AUSTRALIA
Ampol’s delivery of new Inflatable Rescue Boat hulls is already making a tangible difference at a local level, with Tallebudgera Surf Life Saving Club among the recipients benefitting from the national initiative. The program, now in its fourth year, has expanded to provide 12 IRB hulls to surf life saving clubs across Australia, ensuring frontline rescue equipment is available where it is needed most.
At Tallebudgera, IRBs are a critical part of everyday beach operations. The patrol area presents unique challenges, including a busy creek mouth, changing surf conditions and high visitor numbers, particularly on weekends and during peak holiday periods. Inflatable Rescue Boats are used frequently for swimmer rescues, rapid response patrols and preventative water safety work, allowing lifesavers to reach people quickly across a wide stretch of water.
Demand for IRB use increases significantly over summer, when beach attendance rises and conditions become more unpredictable. In addition to routine patrols, IRBs are often required for major events such as surf carnivals, where they are deployed to provide dedicated water safety coverage. Even during these events, clubs must still maintain IRBs for standard patrol duties, highlighting the ongoing need for multiple, reliable vessels. The arrival of a new IRB hull strengthens the club’s overall capability, ensuring equipment remains dependable and ready for continuous use.
Modern hulls improve performance and durability, supporting safer and more efficient rescues for both lifesavers and those in need of assistance. Beyond beach rescues, IRBs have also proven invaluable during emergency situations away from the surf zone, including flood response and broader community support operations.
