Pantaenius celebrates 125 years of excellence, a legacy carefully nurtured by Harald Baum and his family, shaping Pantaenius into Europe’s premier yacht insurance specialists. Presently, Pantaenius Versicherungsmakler GmbH caters to approximately 5,000 medium-sized enterprises across five strategic locations: Düsseldorf, Eisenach, Kiel, Munich, and its founding city, Hamburg.
Since its inception in 1899 by Johann C. Pantaenius, the Hamburg branch has been synonymous with the ethos of Pantaenius. Originally established as a marine insurance brokerage firm in the Free and Hanseatic City, it evolved under his successor in the 1920s to encompass property and life insurance.
In 1963, Harald Baum joined the company, marking the beginning of a transformative era. Today, his children Daniel, Martin, and Anna steer the company forward. In 1970, Harald assumed leadership, pioneering a ground-breaking hull insurance model for yachts that revolutionised the industry with its innovative approach.
Through ensuing decades, Pantaenius burgeoned, extending its reach to ten strategic locations across Europe and Australia. By the late 1990s, the yacht insurance arm was carved out into a distinct entity from the traditional brokerage operations.
Presently, the Pantaenius Group encompasses not only the yacht insurance division but also the Marine Claims Service surveyor’s office and the yacht management firm Zucker & Partner.
Pantaenius Versicherungsmakler GmbH, operational since its founding, remains the cornerstone of this esteemed enterprise.
