Exclusive training program for powered inflatable boating community

BRIG Queensland and Paradigm Training Group (RTO no. 41059) have introduced an exclusive training program to the powered-inflatable-boating community. Developing a first-of-its-kind training program; that will be the leading nonaccredited maritime program in Australia ensuring clients and their families gain the best of the best (creme del la creme) in training solutions. Students will have the ability to scale their training from BRIG Novice Mariner all the way to BRIG Master Mariner.

The program will have five levels of certification (courses), as follows:

BRIG NOVICE MARINER – Clients undertaking the BRIG Novice Mariner Course will have the opportunity to choose between two full-day courses. The courses are as follows (accredited recreational boat licence – QLD only):

Clients will complete a Queensland recreational boat course, which upon successful completion, allows the individual to apply for a Queensland recreational boat licence (RMDL), or complete a full-day intensive novice program that focuses on vessel-handling and docking in sheltered/partially smooth waters.

Competencies include collision regulations, vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks, vessel knowledge and terminology, vessel handling, berthing and unberthing, man overboard drills, and anchoring.

BRIG INTERMEDIATE MARINER – Clients undertaking the BRIG Intermediate Mariner Course will have the opportunity to complete a one-day training program in sheltered/partially smooth waters.

Competencies include collision regulations, vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks, vessel knowledge and terminology, intermediate vessel handling (figure eight, turning short, mooring, berthing and unberthing, Including berthing in a pen), trailer launching and retrieving a vessel, beaching and refloating a vessel, weather monitoring, seamanship skills (ropes, knots and deckhand skills), basic maintenance and radio.

BOAT EDUCATION

BRIG ADVANCED MARINER – Clients undertaking the BRIG Advanced Mariner Course will have the opportunity to complete a two-day training program in sheltered/partially smooth waters.

Competencies include collision regulations, vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks, vessel knowledge and terminology, advanced vessel handling (figure eight, turning short, mooring, handling a partially disabled vessel using sea anchor or drogue), handling vessel in dangerous weather conditions (simulated), berthing and unberthing (including berthing in and reversing in a pen), trailer launching and retrieving a vessel, beaching and refloating a vessel, weather monitoring, seamanship skills (ropes, knots and deckhand skills), basic maintenance, basic radio, towing and being towed, chart and electronic navigation.

BRIG MASTER MARINER – Clients undertaking the BRIG Advanced Mariner Course will have the opportunity to complete a three-day training program in sheltered/partially smooth/open waters.

Competencies include collision regulations, vessel pre-departure and shutdown checks, vessel knowledge and terminology, master vessel handling (figure eight, turning short, mooring, handling a partially disabled vessel using sea anchor or drogue), handling vessel in dangerous weather conditions (simulated), berthing and unberthing (including berthing in and reversing in a pen), trailer launching and retrieving a vessel, beaching and refloating a vessel, weather monitoring, seamanship skills (ropes, knots and deckhand skills), basic maintenance and radio, towing and being towed, chart and electronic navigation, radar, depth sounders and bar crossings.

BRIG OCEAN SURVIVOR – Clients undertaking the BRIG Ocean Survivor course will have the opportunity to complete a one-day training program in simulated emergency environments that will show individuals how to survive in an emergency situation while at sea operating a vessel.

The program includes firefighting techniques including fighting live fires using extinguishers, blankets, buckets and hoses, using emergency flares, emergency radio calls, using EPIRBs using life jackets, liferaft usage and manoeuvring vessel abandonment drills, water survival drills and skills, emergency equipment checks and maintenance, muster drills, and emergency communication and management.
